I have always been up and down with my weight but if I ever put weight on I always managed to lose it as soon as I put my mind to it…then I had a child and got very close to the ripe old age of 40. All of a sudden the weight I could easily lose was not going anywhere. I tried Jenny Craig which had worked perfectly for me once before, but it did not work at all this time. I actually put on 2.5kg. This most certainly was not the plan.
Then in February last year (2012) I saw a photo of myself all dressed up for a lovely lunch and I realised I looked like I had been stung by a thousand bees. I wasn’t aware of just how bloated (let’s be honest…fat) I actually looked. I thought “this is it, I have to do something about it”
My husband was already doing PT’s with Paul so I thought I would give it a shot. I met with him and he was so understanding of everything, all my struggles, my likes, my dislikes. I remember our first PT session and I couldn’t even do a proper squat, Paul had to get the weight bench for me and I just had to squat to that (I can thankfully say that I can do squats properly now even holding weights)
What was great was Paul gradually increased the intensity of my training sessions without me even really noticing and his enthusiasm for helping me out is just what I need. Paul is firm but fair, if he asks me to do something and I don’t do it correctly he says “it doesn’t count” and I have to do it again. It’s a great incentive as I don’t want to hear those words from his mouth and I have to admit I have heard them too many times to count.
I have to be honest I did find it a little disheartening in the beginning as I wanted to see weight loss off of the scales and although Paul would take my measurements and there would be loss on the measurements I still could not get my head around the fact that the kilo’s weren’t coming off on the scale despite Paul telling me countless times about the muscle weighing more than fat. Paul has asked me or should I say “told me” on a number of occasions to do him a favour and smash the scales but I just can’t do it but I can say that now I don’t take it to heart what the kilos say as people’s compliments say it all. I could definitely get better results if I followed Paul’s nutrition plan but I just can’t give up my champagne!
Paul has helped both my husband and I get to a better place not just physically but also mentally, we both feel so much better about ourselves and just like a hairdresser, Paul makes a great “counsellor”.
